By becoming an EPiHC signatory and using the EPiHC logo, organizations are signaling a commitment to implementing the highest standard for ethical practices—to improve the lives of their patients, their employees, the environment, and the communities they serve.

EPiHC signatories represent every facet of the private health care services sector, from hospitals and clinics and their associations to insurance companies to investors. Some operate globally, while others have a regional or local focus, and all share a commitment to growing worldwide access to high-quality health care. For health care providers that already have their own code of conduct or internal ethics framework, the adoption of EPiHC can send a strong public signal of their commitment to do the right thing, and inspire others to follow their lead. For other organizations that may not have addressed or codified ethics guidelines in their operations—including those providers working in the least developed markets—these principles can serve as a useful guide as they seek to scale up and professionalize their operations.

“Private providers are essential to achieving universal health coverage but have been largely ignored in national and global policies. These Ethical Principles provide them with direction for delivering high-quality care that is in the interest of the patient and community.”

Professor of Health Systems, Department of Global Health and Population, Harvard T.H. Chan School of Public Health
